The first entry in Prompted, an experimental series exploring the creative possibilities and limitations of generative video. Rather than presenting a continuous narrative, A.I. Slop or Not moves through a collection of visual studies—from gritty, low-angle realism and naturalistic human interaction to more stylized character animation.

The title poses the question behind the experiment: Is generic, interchangeable “AI slop” an unavoidable product of the technology, or can stronger creative direction produce more intentional results? The reel tests how cinematography, atmosphere, character, and texture can be shaped through prompting rather than treating generation itself as the finished creative act.

How it was made

I created most of the reel through text-to-video generation in Kling, developing detailed master prompts and then producing variations on each visual idea. Instead of asking for generalized cinematic polish, I emphasized realism, camera perspective, environmental texture, and the irregularities associated with photographed reality. The process involved testing, revising, comparing generations, and selecting the clips that came closest to the intended visual language.

Some sequences used an image-to-video workflow, with stills created in ChatGPT or developed through Daz Studio and then animated in Kling. I prompted the accompanying music in Udio and edited the different experiments into a compact reel built around contrast, rhythm, and visual range. The piece is intentionally exploratory: its purpose was to learn where the technology could be directed, where it resisted control, and how traditional filmmaking judgment could shape the results.
