Three billion people have been infected. Humanity is no longer one species—or at least, society no longer treats it that way.
The Denton Conspiracy is a serialized speculative-fiction audiobook set in a world transformed by Hemoglyphosoma (HGS), a blood-borne virus whose victims develop symptoms disturbingly similar to those associated with vampires: extreme sensitivity to sunlight, an altered physiology and a biological need for plasma or blood.
Those infected with HGS—known as Hemos, or more derogatorily as “clots”—now share the world with the uninfected, creating two populations forced to negotiate fear, prejudice, survival and an increasingly unstable social order.
Hemoglyphosoma (HGS) is a virus that spread to over 3 billion people worldwide. These are the stories of people living in a society on the cusp of a (r)evolutionary change.
The Denton Conspiracy grew out of a series of short stories I wrote around a central speculative question: what would happen if something resembling vampirism wasn't supernatural at all, but a global medical condition affecting billions of people?
Rather than treating vampires as monsters hiding outside society, I wanted to explore what happens once this new population becomes too large to marginalize or ignore. That meant building not only the biology of HGS, but the social structures that would emerge around it—the terminology, prejudices, political tensions, cultural divisions and everyday compromises created when infected and uninfected people have to occupy the same world.
The individual stories allowed me to approach that world from different perspectives, gradually revealing a larger society undergoing profound change. I later developed that material into a serialized audio production, using sound, performance and narrative structure to turn the written world into a more immersive dramatic experience.
At its core, the vampire mythology is the entry point rather than the destination. The larger story is about what societies do when a fundamental distinction between “us” and “them” suddenly becomes biological, visible and impossible to escape.
