Nicholas Sparks reflects on first love—the intensity of experiencing it, the memories it leaves behind, and why those early relationships can remain with us long after they end.

The conversation draws on one of the central themes of The Wish, using Sparks’ perspective to introduce audiences to the emotional territory of the novel without simply explaining its plot.

How it was made

This video was part of a series I developed and produced around the release of Nicholas Sparks’ The Wish, built around a content strategy I regularly used for author interviews at Hachette.

I write interview questions with the finished content in mind. Rather than asking questions likely to produce short promotional soundbites, I look for subjects that can generate substantial, self-contained answers. In principle, ten strong questions can produce ten distinct videos—each with its own idea, title and reason for an audience to watch.

For this installment, I built the conversation around first love, one of the themes at the heart of The Wish. It gave Sparks an opportunity to discuss an idea with universal emotional resonance while still connecting naturally to the novel.

The strategy allowed a single production to generate a larger collection of focused content, extending the life and usefulness of the interview while giving the campaign multiple stories to share rather than one long promotional video.
