This :30 promo introduces Here TV’s Threesome, a provocative roundtable series in which hosts and guest panelists tackle viewer questions about sex, love and relationships with humor, candor and decidedly uncensored opinions.
Built entirely from moments pulled from existing episodes, the spot captures the personalities, humor and anything-goes tone of the series in a fast introduction designed to tell viewers exactly what kind of show they were getting.
I created several promotional spots for Here TV’s original programming, and Threesome presented a classic promo-editing challenge: reduce hours of existing television into 30 seconds that could communicate the identity of the show.
There wasn't a new shoot or elaborate concept behind this one. The work was in the archive.
I went through multiple episodes looking for the moments that best represented what made the series entertaining—strong reactions, provocative exchanges, funny lines and flashes of personality that could communicate the show's tone almost instantly.
From there, I built the promo around those selections, using pacing, juxtaposition and sound to turn material created for longer conversations into a concise piece of advertising.
The challenge with a :30 isn't simply making something fast. Every shot has to earn its place. In half a minute, the viewer needs to understand the premise, meet the personalities, feel the tone and—most importantly—want to see more.
