What's it actually like to walk into an unfamiliar workout class for the very first time?
TryOut Workout follows host Adesina Sanchez as she steps outside her fitness comfort zone and tries different workouts firsthand—learning the techniques, meeting the instructors and discovering just how challenging each new experience can be.
What began with this first installment ultimately grew into a recurring HealthiNation fitness franchise with more than 20 episodes, taking Adesina into gyms, studios and other locations to try everything from mainstream fitness trends to workouts she'd never experienced before.
TryOut Workout was literally the first project I constructed when I arrived at HealthiNation.
The footage had already been shot with Adesina Sanchez before I joined the company. There was a title—TryOut Workout—but no established format, visual identity or editorial structure for what the show was supposed to be.
So I built one.
I took the existing footage and determined how the story should work editorially, designing a structure around Adesina's experience of entering an unfamiliar workout as a newcomer. I created the title sequence and visual packaging, established the pacing and editorial language, and edited the material into a finished show.
That first edit effectively became the blueprint for the series.
Once the format existed, TryOut Workout could become a repeatable franchise: Adesina could visit a new location, meet an instructor, learn an unfamiliar workout and take the audience through the experience with her. The series ultimately grew to more than 20 episodes.
For me, it was also the beginning of something larger. My first HealthiNation assignment wasn't simply an editing job—it required me to look at a collection of footage with no real structure and figure out what the show could be.
