What happens when a doctor who loves food steps into the kitchen? Developed as a 30-minute pilot, the show brings together Dr. Mike’s medical expertise and passion for cooking to explore the relationship between food, health and the people who produce what we eat.
The pilot combines two cooking segments with conversations featuring food producers, including a salmon fisherman and the owner of Meadow Mist Farm—connecting what happens in the kitchen with where our food actually comes from.
Working with a production company that had an established relationship with Dr. Mike, I developed the show around a simple principle: the format should feel like an authentic extension of the host himself.
Rather than building a conventional cooking show and placing Dr. Mike inside it, I used his interests and expertise to shape the format—combining cooking, medicine, food sourcing and conversation into a show that could naturally move between entertainment and useful information.
The 30-minute pilot was structured around two cooking segments and two field interviews with food producers, giving us a repeatable format that could explore food from multiple perspectives. The objective wasn't simply to produce a one-off video, but to develop the foundation for a series with a clear identity built around its host.
