The Deal: Spring Into Spring Special (Excerpt)

Producer, Director, Editor

What's worth seeing at the movies this spring?

For The Deal’s Spring Special, a panel of writers, producers and other Here TV personalities gets together to talk about the season’s upcoming movie releases—sharing opinions, recommendations and the films they were most interested in seeing.

The roundtable was one of several entertainment segments assembled for the special, bringing an informal group conversation into The Deal’s magazine-style mix of interviews, features and pop-culture coverage.

How it was made

Not every segment of The Deal needed an elaborate production concept. Part of producing a weekly magazine show was developing formats that could be entertaining, topical and relatively simple to execute.

For the Spring Movie Preview, I gathered a group of writers, producers and other people from around the Here TV office and studio and put them together for an informal conversation about the movies being released that season.

The production requirements were intentionally straightforward: assemble an interesting mix of personalities, give them a subject they could genuinely discuss, capture the conversation and shape the strongest exchanges into the finished segment.

Pieces like this were useful within the larger production model because they could be produced quickly while still giving the show original, personality-driven editorial content. Combined with more ambitious interviews, location remotes, musical guests and other material, they helped us build full episodes without requiring every segment to carry the same production weight.
